Growing Independence Through Self-Help Skills
At The Lions Academy, we believe every child is capable of taking meaningful steps toward independence. Thatβs why self-help skills are a central part of our daily learning. From putting on shoes and tidying up after play to serving snacks and caring for personal belongings, children gain confidence through hands-on practice.
These everyday routines are not just tasks β they are powerful learning moments. With gentle guidance from teachers, children develop:
- Responsibility β learning to care for themselves and their environment
- Confidence β discovering the joy of βI can do it!β
- Practical life skills β building habits that support lifelong growth
By fostering self-help skills, we empower children to take ownership of their learning journey, preparing them to thrive with curiosity, resilience, and independence.compassionate learners who are ready to thrive in school and beyond.
Bilingual Learning, Double the Discovery
At The Lions Academy, we embrace the richness of bilingual and multilingual education as part of our curriculum. Children are naturally curious about language, and our classrooms provide daily opportunities to hear, speak, and explore in Spanish, Chinese, and American Sign Language (ASL) alongside English. This language-rich environment not only strengthens communication skills but also deepens cultural awareness, empathy, and global perspective.
In keeping with our Reggio Emilia approach, language learning is woven into real-life experiences β songs, stories, conversations, and collaborative projects. Children donβt just memorize words; they use language to express ideas, build relationships, and make sense of the world around them.
Through this approach, children gain:
- Cognitive growth β enhancing memory, problem-solving, and flexibility
- Cultural connection β understanding and appreciating multiple traditions
- Confidence in expression β learning to communicate across languages and modalities with joy and pride
By nurturing multilingual skills, we empower children to connect across cultures, embrace diversity, and carry forward the values of openness, curiosity, and belonging.of openness, curiosity, and belonging that define The Lions Academy.
